5 of 5 Bourbon City Bridge Pickup December 18, 2012
Reviewer: Mike Foreman from St Nicholas at Wade, Kent United Kingdom
This humbucker was fitted in place of a Gibson stock pickup on a 2000 Gibson SG standard.
The pickup sounded great straight away, a much thinner and slightly crisper sound than the over-wound hot pup it replaced. This really enabled me to get a clearer overdriven tone and helped create more transparent and less harsh clean tones.
After seating the over-wound neck pup as low in the body as possible and raising the Bourbon city fairly high, I was able to balance the blend between the pups, to get a more rounded sound when both are selected. I didn't think I would be able to match the two pickups (becasue of the difference in output) but weirdly it works quite well.
Very happy with my purchase, especially at these prices. Top quality pickups and because of the wide choice you offer, I will definitely be back for more.

The Axesrus Bourbon City neck pickup is great value. It's now on a Gibson Les Paul Studio paired with a Gibson 498T and it performs fine for general 1960s/70s blues / rock - just what I hoped for from the spec and description. I have restored and upgraded numerous guitars using Gibson, SD and Kent Armstrong pickups, and these hold their own in that company. Suffice to say, I've now ordered another pickup from this range for another project I've started on.

5 of 5 Bourbon City Humbuckers April 24, 2012

Your Bourbon Cities have replaced the stock Wilkinson ceramics in a Vintage V100 Paradise.

I'm not a straight rock player, and my favourite Les Paul is a plain top (i.e. no maple) with PAF alnico Vs. To me it's rich and earthy (others might say nasal and muddy).

However, I wanted a Les Paul with a maple top for when I'm in the mood for something lighter. But the stock ceramics were too harsh and brought out too much of the maple scoop, quack and ping for my liking.

I thought Alnico IIs might be the best choice to balance the guitar up. And they do that very nicely.

I'm very pleased with the Bourbon City pickups I got from you. They're hot but lyrical, they clean up well, and as you say they're very good for rock/blues. They've turned my Vintage V100 Paradise from a near miss into a keeper.
