Description Technical Specs

We are absolutely delighted to present the most recent addition to our medium output humbucker range; the ‘Muck Puppy’. The idea with the Mucky Puppy was always to create something tonally versatile that would seriously perform across the musical spectrum, something with the headroom and sensitivity to handle blues (or even comp away in a jazz setting), but still have the presence and attitude to roar when it’s pushed hard enough. We wanted it to excel under varying levels of gain, and still sound great in both bridge and neck positions.

When we sat down to design this thing we were mindful that true versatility in a pick-up is often synonymous with a bland, diluted tone that (by all accounts!) will “do a job in a wide variety of musical genres”, but, in reality, lacks the unique character and voice of its own required to specialise in any of them – it’s the old “Jack of all trades” problem.

This is the last thing that we wanted to happen to the Puppy, so we anticipated we may be in for a tough time during the development phase on this one. What surprised us more than anything was just how great the Mucky Puppy sounded straight off the bat! When we cranked the power tubes in the first test session we were blown away! Power, presence, natural compression without getting overly muddy, it was a real ‘plug and play’ pick-up!

They’ll handle pretty much anything you throw at them. The Alnico 2 (II) magnet provides a sweet, full bodied mid-range that is gloriously rich in harmonics and overtones that become more and more excited the harder they are pushed. At the same time it is this evenly balanced EQ that gives the Mucky Puppy the perceived warmth and flat response at low levels of gain that works so well for a cleaner rhythm guitar sound (especially in the neck).

The Mucky Puppy is wound at 10.2K ohms. This allows them to be driven hard whilst preserving the integrity of the bottom end, and avoids overly sharp edges in the top. It’s lively, it’s bags of fun, and it’s totally versatile. The Mucky Puppy is a true companion for the eclectic, diverse guitar player!

This is a great raunchy pickup. Just enough treble to cut and be clear and not too much output to be over compressed.

I played my Les Paul all night then moved to my Washburn with this in for one song, only for someone in the audience to comment ‘THAT guitar sounded great’!

Must add that this company are excellent to deal with as well.
