Pickups fitted to the Fender® Jaguar®, superficially at least, look very similar to normal single coils, but one of the important components that really shape their sound, is the steel grounding plate fitted underneath the bobbin. Acting in a similar way to the focusing plate fitted to the Telecaster® Bridge pickup, it helps attenuate certain frequencies, and, combined with the distinctive bobbin shape, and magnet setup, really helps nail that characteristic Jaguar® tone.
