This is the "reflector plate" that sits on top of the bobbins on a mini humbucker which has bar magnet poles, as seen on the Gibson® Firebird.

Its argued that this little steel bar is designed to increase the iron content within the circuit, which increases the inductance, and partially causes the 2 poles to act as a horse shoe magnet - and whilst it certainly does this, we think its probably just been invented to stop the bobbins jumping around during construction!

This plate is actually oversized for the job, but can be easily cut down.
