Description Technical Specs

UFO knobs are commonly seen on most Stratocaster® guitars – be it a closet classic or a brand new model. Appearing very early in the design during the early 50s, they actually replaced the metal Barrel knobs seen on the very early prototypes.

UFOs are easily identifiable with their sleek, sloped edges and toothed body, they really do look like a 1950s inspired flying saucer.

Traditionally, the knobs will be labelled from one to ten around the outside “skirt”, and the identifying control name embossed across the top (normally Volume and Tone) – although some interesting exceptions do appear, this would be the standard.

The design itself is easy to use in a normal setup, with the toothed edge giving great purchase against the rotational friction of the pot, but they’re not best suited for use with some of the more complicated switching systems which require push/pull pots (in these cases, it’s always advisable to use a push/push pot) due to their tapered design, and push on mounting system.

These knobs are specifically designed for Alpha pots, which you’ll normally find in guitars made in the Far East, normally in the more low to medium cost end of the market. Fairly easy to identify, Alpha pots will be stamped with either an A or a B somewhere on their construction and the toothed section of the pots head will have 16 separations, which will be relatively coarse. The diameter of this section should also be 5.9mm in diameter.

We supply these UFOs in the traditional configuration of one Volume and 2 Tone knobs, but if you have any special requests, please let us know and we can always mix and match the sets.
