Axesrus "Bourbon City" Humbuckers Axesrus "Classic 50s - Deluxe" Humbuckers Axesrus "Ethereal" Humbucker
With these pickups we've been aiming to hit that notch between clean and dirty, and the Bourbon City set delivers brilliantly on both fronts. Crystal clear tones on clean, with every note carrying a halo of warmth that really lends itself to a single note style, but with a little overdrive, they've got a kick like the name suggests. With the warmth becoming heat, the clear tones becoming sharp - exactly how a humbucker should sound.
These are the standard size Bourbon Cities - suitable for most guitars out there if you're mounting them into a pickguard, or a relatively thin topped Arch Top such as an Epiphone®
The Classic 50s deluxe edition has finally arrived! These pickups are the next stage in the development of our hugely successful “original” Classic 50s, and in a slight departure from what we normally do with Humbuckers, there’s a specific Bridge and Neck pickup - obviously, no hard and fast rules, but we've found the best results come with a matched set. The Ethereal is a bit of a strange pickup on the face of it - it’s so highly wound at 16K that you’re instantly thinking “this is going to be high output/tons of gain/wont clean up” but its actually a bit “Sheep in wolve’s clothing” – and as such, performs much more like what we’d associate with a medium output humbucker.

Axesrus "Hot Iron 7s" Humbuckers Axesrus "Hot Iron" Humbuckers - Hex Pole Axesrus "HSA290" Humbucker Sized P90s
The Hot Irons are without a doubt one of our favourite humbuckers, that combination of high output aggression, responsiveness and power, combined with that beautiful, musical character from the Alnico V magnets, so we're pleased to be now making a 7 string version! Coming at traditional from the other end of the spectrum, the uncovered version of the Hot Iron Humbuckers have given us a little bit more license to cater for the Fat Strat® player out there, so rather then just playing it by the numbers, we’ve made them a little bit more customisable then we’ve ever done before.

Beyond just offering Black, White and Zebra, we’re offering them with a choice of pole colours, be that Gold, Black or Chrome – really looks the part, and doesn’t ruin the theme of a guitar by having a clashing colour on your pickups.
The HSA290s are a little twist we’ve developed on the popular Late 50s model that’s really pulling up trees in its humbucker form. The original model has been incredibly well received by jazz players looking for that little more authenticity from their tone. The makeup on the L50s is so specialised, we wanted to make something a little more accessible, a little less demanding, and so in a first for the company, we’re actually producing a pickup in house here in the UK!

Axesrus "Insult & Injury" Humbuckers Axesrus "Knee Jerk - Deluxe" Humbucker Axesrus "Laudanum" Humbuckers - Hex Pole
The Axesrus Insult and Injury Humbuckers are our first real foray into the increasingly popular world of Alnico 4 Humbuckers, and they’ve yielded some very interesting results!

Bringing a similar sort of flavour to the traditional Alnico V that we use to great effect with the Hot Iron and Leadline humbuckers, but sporting a little more character in the mid range to really beef up the tone, these humbuckers are absolutely ideal for rock and blues work, when your looking to push the amp a little harder, but without losing copious amounts of the pickups character.
Harking back to a simpler time, these really are a no nonsense pickups, wound in that sweet spot between 7k and 8k, they’ll take whatever you can throw at them, from pop through to hard rock and every thing in between - as you'd expect really - these are the style of pickups that started everything. The magnets, having slightly less pull then the modern alternatives lend a slightly top heavy edge to the overall tone, and help ring every last ounce of sustain out of any guitar. Coming at traditional from the other end of the spectrum, the uncovered version of the Laudanum Humbucers have given us a little bit more license to cater for the Fat Strat® player out there, so rather then just playing it by the numbers, we’ve made them a little bit more customisable then we’ve ever done before.

Axesrus "Model 24" Humbucker Axesrus "Mucky Puppy" Humbuckers - Hex Pole Axesrus "The Purist"
The Model 24 humbucker represents a new way of thinking of medium output pickups for us. Rather than a “vintage pickup that’ll rock”, it’s probably fair to say it’s a “Rock pickup with vintage characteristics” The Axesrus "Mucky Puppy" Humbuckers - a real delinquent of a pickup, designed to be a straight shooting, plug and play bucket of fun for anyone playing that more modern blues rock style of guitar. Francis Gill has worked closely with us for a number of years now as our resident guitarist and product development consultant. He is the man you’ll hear on the vast majority of our sound recordings, so it only seemed fitting to actually make him an Axesrus® Humbucker that exactly matched his wants and needs – and here we are - “The Purist”!

Axesrus "Wraith" DiMarzio "Air Classic - Neck" Humbucker DiMarzio "Air Norton" Humbucker in Black
Compared to the Hot Iron – our “go to” high output pickup – the Wraith distorts earlier, retains more clarity at higher gain, responds better to drop tuning, maintains a tighter low end response to avoid that dread “Flub” and doesn’t display that usual “mid range honk” that you’d get with something a little more traditional – this results in a much sharper, more rangy tone – maybe lacking a little of the versatility of the Hot Iron, but beating it hands down in terms of performance in the heavier stuff. DiMarzio love the sound of late 1950s humbuckers, but we didn't want to simply imitate them by using Alnico 2 or “aged” Alnico 5 magnets. Airbucker™ technology was created to capture all of the best sonic qualities of vintage humbuckers while avoiding the technical problems.
The Air Norton™ started out simply to be the Airbucker™ version of the Norton®.

DiMarzio thought it would make a distinctive-sounding bridge pickup with high-gain amps, but we soon discovered that it’s a radically neat neck pickup, too.

DiMarzio "Bluesbucker" Humbucker in Black DiMarzio "D Activator" - Neck DiMarzio "Dominion" Humbucker - Bridge
And now for something completely different: the Bluesbucker® looks like a
standard humbucker, but sounds like a P90 and cancels 60-cycle hum as
effectively as the average humbucker.
In 2006, DiMarzio took a close look at the most popular active neck and bridge humbuckers to see if they could capture all of the good qualities and eliminate the disadvantages: cold sound, limited dynamics, running out of headroom when played hard, and the need for batteries. The end results are the D Activator™ Neck and Bridge. They use coils tuned to specific frequencies. The purpose is to shift the resonant points of the pickups to the fundamentals and harmonics that you want to accentuate from the guitar. The best way to know how well a pickup will perform is to play it in the real world. That’s exactly what Mark Morton did. He toured and recorded in Lamb of God with Dominion™ pickups in his main guitars for over two years. Mark’s confident they do exactly what he wants, and what he wants are pickups that work hard and sound great.

DiMarzio "Evo 2" DiMarzio "Evolution" - Bridge DiMarzio "Evolution" - Neck
The original Evolution® Bridge Model did exactly what Steve Vai wanted it to do: kick butt and produce serious scream. Then he wanted something a little more complex — the same basic tone with increased headroom and dynamics, so that the sound kills on 10 and cleans up when the volume is rolled down. With a little less power than the original Evolution®, Evo 2™ balances perfectly with the Evolution® Neck Model and performs equally well with high gain and vintage amps. The Evolution® Neck and Bridge humbuckers are the result of two years of research to come up with the right sound for a very demanding player: Steve Vai and his Ibanez® Jems. Both pickups are designed for maximum impact and power. The neck pickup is fat, punchy and loud. The bridge pickup is tight, aggressive and louder. Both pickups have our patented dual-resonance configuration to reproduce more harmonic overtones than conventional humbuckers. Evolution® pickups are not polite-sounding, and they’re not for the inexperienced, but – if you’ve got the chops and a hot amp – your sound will burn. The Evolution® pickups were originally designed with live gigs in mind, but they have so much presence and definition that they’re great recording pickups, too; they slice right through even the densest mix. DiMarzio "FRED" Humbucker - F Spaced - Black DiMarzio Gravity Storm Humbucker DiMarzio "Gravity Storm" - Neck
DiMarzio designed FRED® to bump the mid-range of the PAF Pro® EQ up a notch, but in the process something unusual happened.

Harmonics that humbuckers usually don’t reproduce started popping out, particularly with overdriven amps and distortion units. FRED® has about the same power as the PAF Pro®, but the unusual overtones create a sound with more crank and growl.
The Gravity Storm™ Neck & Bridge Model pickups were designed for Steve Vai, and are the next step in his pickup evolution. The Gravity Storm™ Neck model is sweet and warm, but the texture has an
edge to it. It has the depth of a humbucker with some of the bite
of a single-coil.

DiMarzio - Steve Morse Model - Neck DiMarzio "Steve’s Special™" DiMarzio "Super 2"
Steve's neck model has a very specific sound, which is almost exactly the opposite of his bridge pickup in every way — it has low output and a warm, very smooth, almost flat attack. The DC resistance spec is very high, but the magnet is not strong, and this combination accounts for the unusual mix of dark tone and low output. Steve’s Special™ is a non-traditional approach to high-output bridge humbucking pickup design. Hot humbuckers usually concentrate most of the pickup’s power in a narrow frequency bandwidth for maximum impact. Using our patented dual-resonance design, Steve’s Special™ takes the opposite path, spreading the sound over a broad range. Bass and treble frequencies are boosted while the mids are pulled back, so the pickup’s power doesn’t kick a high-gain amp into overdrive as easily. This makes Steve’s Special™ a good choice for both fast soloing and clean chords, because individual notes won’t smear together with heavy overdrive, and clean sounds have an almost “hi-fi” quality. If you love the sound of a Super Distortion® in the bridge and you like hot neck pickups too, try a Super 2™. The Super 2™ takes the classic Super Distortion® sound and slides the EQ up in favor of the high-end, so its brighter top and lighter bottom work to balance out the darker, overtone heavy information up by the fingerboard.
